Margaret Smith


Margaret also plays both violin and viola.  She’s is the newest member of the enesemble and brings to it a wealth of technical information and musical expertise.  She is a retired  teaches general music, strings, orchestra and band in the Essex Town School system, and is a member of the Lyric Opera Theatre Orchestra. She has studied with graduates of the Julliard School and has attended the Kato Havas workshops, including two weeks of private instruction with Ms. Havas in England.  She is also past president of the Vermont Chapter of the American String Teachers’ Association, and also teaches privately.

 

 


Polly McMurtry


Polly has also seen Borealis change from string trio into string quartet, and studied violin before taking up the ‘cello. She is a member of the Vermont Philharmonic Orchestra, and served as principal ‘cellist in the Capitol City Orchestra, and has played in the Harwood Community Concerts Orchestra.  She has participated in Raphael Trio workshops in Adamant, Vermont, and the New Jersey ASTA string workshops. In addition, she has also participated in summer music programs in Canada, as well as Burlington and Brattleboro Vermont. She has studied under Melissa Brown of the Vermont Symphony Orchestra, and  Bob Blais of Montpelier, currently studies with John Dunlop.
